Accessing Provider Networks
Blue Cross Blue Shield Providers
Generally our plan utilizes the provider networks in the Blue Cross Blue Shield companies in the member's territory.
Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield is our insurer. Their direction for determining providers in the member’s area is shown below:
"Members can use any provider who is in-network with the local Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO network.
Members can go out to provider.bcbs.com to search for local providers in their area by zip code. It’s a really easy-to-use tool. This tool is much more inclusive when searching for providers outside of PA/WV (Highmark territory) because it is the National provider search tool for Blue Cross Blue Shield.
This is a good way for members who are already enrolled to check providers because it requires you to enter the 1st 3 letters of your Member ID.
The process for prospective enrollees is the same. The letter they would enter when prompted are WFW.
We also recommend for members to ALWAYS double check with their provider on the date of their appointment to ensure they are still contracted with their local BCBS PPO because those contracts can change at any time."
