The association must work with its membership to identify workplace issues or conditions that indicate sufficient discontent to warrant an organizing effort.
- Physician/hospital/health system issues will be unique to each member’s venue.
- Members have access to contractual terms, which may lead to those workplace issues.
- As a workplace example, nurse/patient ratios have been the type of issue that has led to organizing elections and contract impasses.
OPEIU initiated 150 organizing elections in the past five years
- OPEIU has won 90% of those elections; the majority of which are in the medical, educational, not-for-profit and technology fields
